Come On, Darters: Letís Make Darts a Sport in Canada!
As of 2008, the Canadian Government recognises darts as a game much like Chess or Backgammon. As darters, it is our strong belief that darts should in fact be recognised as any other sport and that darts should be funded on many levels to help improve the culture of darts as a whole and specifically with the development of new players.

Toronto Darts is happy to announce the start of The Big Push For Darts. The Big Push for Darts is all about dart playing Canadians getting together and telling the federal government to have darts declared a sport in Canada. Our goal is to help the National Darts Federation of Canada (N.D.F.C.) in their efforts to collect 10,000 signatures to take to the federal government to make this happen.

Bill Hatter, President of the National Darts Federation of Canada, has endorsed our efforts and has said to us:

“...we know there are thousands (of dart players) who play and really donít review websites or other competitive areas as they are recreational players. WE NEED THESE PEOPLE TO SIGN”.

Toronto Darts couldnít agree more and is joining with the N.D.F.C. to ask all darters who are interested in the sport for their help. To date, the N.D.F.C. has collected 1,200 names, but both we and the N.D.F.C. believe we can all do much better. They believe 10,000 names on a petition would do it, so weíre pitching in! Letís get the 10,000 we need and show some support and real effort and get some signatures before itís too late.

Why does this matter? If the Canadian Government recognises darts as a legitimate amateur sport, funding will become available and will affect darts at all levels and especially for youth darts and the development of younger players. It won't take much for all of us to accomplish this goal and with a few moments of your time we believe we can make a huge difference.

These are the ways we can do it:

  • If someone presents you with the N.D.F.C. petition ñ sign it! Itís a start and every signature counts.
  • Print off a petition sheet from our site (click here) and collect as many signatures as possible. You can fax it back to us or hand it to one of our Petition Partners when you see them in person. Weíll send it to the N.D.F.C.
  • Take a sheet from someone who has them printed off and collect signatures yourself. Multiply the effort!
  • Let everyone you know who plays darts know about this petition and where they can sign it.
  • Sign the online petition at the N.D.F.C. website. Click here to visit: www.ndfc.ca

Please download the petition flyer, complete it with as many names as possible, and fax it to the numbers provided.
