With 2 darts, always take the easiest number with your first dart in order to get to a double. For example, if you have 68 remaining with 2 darts, you might be tempted to go the T20 to leave D4. While the odds of you hitting a T20 may be reasonable, the odds of you hitting a S18 in order to leave a DB are much higher. The point here is to at least have a shot at a double and especially so if your opponent is on or near a double as well. Not sure that you agree? Try this:

Over ten turns, throw at the T20 every 60 seconds. This will simulate an actual game and the time it takes in between turns. Every T20 that you hit will represent an opportunity to go for the D4. Write down how many times you hit the T20. Then do the same thing, going for a S18. A good estimation is to assume that you will at least 3X as many chances to go for a double, which means that you'll have 3X as many chances to win a game than you normally would.

This is a good one to practice, for obvious reasons. While warming up on dart nights you can also play this with a teammate or even a few teammates - someone starts with 170 and the next person goes for whatever is left. As soon as someone takes it out, you immediately start-over and so on. Going for the 170 itself is always fun and you will have to think about different outs as you work your way down, which really helps when you are playing your matches later on in the evening.

Try not leave this if you can help it and think about what you'll need to hit after your second dart. For example, if you have 189 and one dart left, hitting a S20 will not help. A S19, on the other hand, will leave you 170 and a T19 will get you closer to a double.
